The Four Wheels of Life

When one wheel of a car is out of balance all four will wear unevenly and can't operate at optimum level.

The four wheels of life are: the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual.  Attention must be paid to all four areas in order to be successful along life's journey.

"Just as your car runs more smoothly and requires less energy to go faster and farther when the wheels are in perfect alignment, you perform better when your thoughts, feelings, emotions, goals and values are in balance."

 -Brian Tracy

"Schools must become concerned and caring places full of teachers who understand that teaching students to love themselves, to feel positive about their natural curiosity and in control of their own lives ought to be given at least as much attention as geometry and grammar."

-Dr. Wayne W Dyer

Canadian Olympic Gymnast to be Guest of Honour at June 16, 2005 Teen Balance Foundation Fundraiser

Local Teen Support Organization in Sync with Dr. Phil

Ottawa--When Teen Balance Foundation organizers selected Heather Purnell, a young Canadian Olympian, to be the guest of honour at Ottawa’s June 16, 2005 Teen Balance Foundation fundraising BBQ, little did they know that mega-media celebrity Dr. Phil was about to launch a similar Foundation—with an American Gymnastics Olympian as guest of honour!

“When Dr. Phil announced on May 30, 2005 that he was inaugurating the Dr. Phil Foundation for teens who have beaten the odds,” says Teen Balance founder Sheila Corrigan, “we were excited.”

“But when we learned that he too had selected a Gymnastics Olympian to represent his Foundation, we knew we were really in sync! Like Dr. Phil, we realized that teens like Heather Purnell personify the Teen Balance Foundation’s ideal recipient: teens who have beaten the odds and achieved their dreams while living their lives in balance.”

The Teen Balance Foundation was founded by Sheila Corrigan and her husband Elvin Davis in 2004. It provides financial support to students who have demonstrated their ability to live a balanced mental, physical, emotional and spiritual life.

The Foundation will hold its 1st Annual Teen Balance Fundraising BBQ from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2005, at the Jim Durrell Recreation Centre, 1265 Walkely Road.

Canadian Gymnastics Olympian Heather Purnell who trains at the Ottawa Gymnastic Centre will be the event’s Guest of Honour. Heather is a former student of Teen Balance founder Sheila Corrigan, herself a retired Ottawa teacher with thirty-five years of education experience.

The Teen Balance event will also feature a BBQ meal sponsored by Dave Smith of The Place Next Door, rides in four Dodge Vipers on display, trick bikes, in-line skating, skateboard, kick box and gymnastics demonstrations, a juggler, an Ottawa Police Services Information booth, programs available to teens and more.

Music for the event will be provided by a teen band. DRIVEN, a new hip hop dance company will also be performing. Prizes donated by local businesses will be raffled throughout the evening.

Tickets for the BBQ and all activities are $10.00 per person. To reserve tickets, or for more information, contact Teen Balance at 260-5953, sheilaC@teenbalance.com, or visit www.TeenBalance.com.

BACKGROUNDER

Teen Balance & THE TEEN BALANCE FOUNDATION

The TEEN BALANCE FOUNDATION awards monies to students who have enthusiastically and passionately demonstrated their ability to live a balanced mental, physical, emotional and spiritual life, who have solid work ethics, discipline and focus, who have clear and positive values and are using their talent to live what they love.

Teens meeting these qualifications are awarded grants to be applied to their education, business, athletic pursuits, humanitarian work or to fulfill a dream that utilizes their gifts and life purpose.

Teen Balance is an organization dedicated to motivating, inspiring and empowering teenagers to live a more balanced life. The Teen Balance Program nurtures each teen’s unique personality and talents while providing participants with the life skills necessary to lead a purposeful and successful adolescence.

Teen Balance is based upon the philosophy that life is like a car. There are four wheels on the car of life—the mental, the physical, the emotional and the spiritual. We know that if one wheel of a car is not balanced, the car will not operate at optimum level. Similarly, when one of the wheels on the car of life is out of balance, the life may not be lived to its truest potential.

The Teen Balance Program provides teens with the tools necessary to balance their mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs, providing a much smoother ride through their teen years. It also helps teens access and use their gifts and core values. The program begins with a multi-media presentation and discussion group. Through the use of role-playing and activities, teens learn about the skills necessary to create balance in their lives. Participants are then invited to complete a workbook based upon what they have learned. Four weeks later, a follow-up session is held to discuss each teen’s progress in finding their balance. Certificates and prizes are presented to those participants that have completed the program.

Sheila Corrigan founded Teen Balance in 2003. A retired teacher with over 35 years of teaching experience, Sheila created Teen Balance in order to address the needs of teens—to help them to balance their lives in an increasingly unbalanced world.
